NACV Show 2021: America’s Premier Commercial Fleet Event Set for Atlanta September 28-30

Event Partners and Sponsors to Feature Multiple Education Sessions on Electrification, Last Mile Shipping and More

ATLANTA – Hannover Fairs USA (HFUSA) and Newcom Business Media, organizers of the North American Commercial Vehicle Show (NACV Show), announced today that America’s premier commercial fleet event will be held on September 28-30, 2021, showcasing again the innovative spirit of the industry while further improving the value and ROI for attending fleets and exhibiting companies alike. The NACV Show 2021 will allow attendees to engage with global exhibitors to experience emerging technologies from battery operated trucks to electric trailers, cutting-edge maintenance solutions and components.

Education: Electric Trucks, Last Mile and More

NACV Show 2021 builds on the 2019 event’s success with the addition of multiple education sessions. One such highlight of this year’s event will be the North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE) and RMI presentation of the results of Run on Less – Electric, a three-week roadshow that will showcase electric trucks in everyday operation. This culmination of the Run on Less – Electric program will feature feedback and analysis from the 10 dedicated study drivers and educational sessions from the OEMs, technology providers, fleet management and shipping companies participating in this year’s study.

“NACFE is excited to again partner with the NACV Show for the finale of our upcoming Run on Less – Electric demonstration. As we did in 2017 and 2019, this third Run will now allow us to share benefits and challenges that pioneering companies are experiencing with early deployment of battery electric trucks. Those pioneers will be with us in Atlanta to help share their knowledge and experience with attendees so they can learn directly from them,” said Mike Roeth, Executive Director of the North American Council for Freight Efficiency.

Also, in the electric truck space, attendees will hear from today’s thought leaders and technology innovators who will address electrification opportunities and challenges, including how to plan for and transition to electric fleets. Speakers will discuss the latest data about how the industry is paving the way to zero emissions and highlight real world case studies about what electric vehicles will look like in a variety of scenarios.

Freightwaves’ “Last Mile” education program will also be part of this year’s lineup. This complimentary education for all NACV Show 2021 fleet attendees will include content from OEMs and fleets addressing today’s challenges and opportunities in Last Mile shipping, particularly the unique challenges and opportunities created over the last 18 months.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our team in the development of this year’s NACV Show event,” said Ed Nichols, Vice President of the NACV Show. “Through months of research and interviews the team has really developed a ‘fleet first’ event, addressing the educational needs of our attending fleets, not only topically, but in the format and from the perspectives they want and need.”

Nichols also shared that the list of partners and content will continue to grow. “We encourage attendees to stay tuned for updates on this year’s education program, which is specifically geared towards helping them immediately improve and build their business,” added Nichols.

Safely Gathering in September

HFUSA continues to work closely with NACV Show partners and stakeholders, local and state authorities and the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC) on implementing safety protocols for September’s event.

The GWCC is a GBAC STAR™ accredited facility, which has established and maintained a cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention program to minimize risks associated with infectious agents like COVID-19. As an accredited facility, GWCC has put in place the proper cleaning protocols, disinfection techniques, and work practices to combat biohazards and infectious disease; and employs highly informed cleaning professionals who are trained for outbreak and infectious disease preparation and response. View the GWCC’s extensive plan of enhanced safety measures and operational changes at www.gwcca.org/returnplan.

“Hannover Fairs USA and Newcom Business Media are dedicated to ensuring a safe and successful event for all involved. We are developing and will continually communicate the details of our safety plan to the NACV Show community,” said Nichols.

Premier Aluminum Platform Racks - We've Got Your Back!

Premier Built Aluminum Platform Racks - Strong but Lighter
than Traditional Steel Platform Racks

When you try to lift a steel rack off or replace it on your platform, you may be inducing unnecessary strain into your back muscles and risking serious back injury. Premier Racks are built with heavy gauge extruded aluminum slats. The posts are thick aluminum channel, this makes for a significantly lighter rack section and makes it much easier to move the sections when necessary. In fact, the typical Premier section weighs 34% less than a steel rack section. That’s 27 pounds or 12 pounds lighter than a steel section.

Read what OSHA says about lifting heavy objects here:

We also offer the “Swing Out” version of the front most rack on each side. This allows you to lift the aluminum rack just a bit, enough distance to disengage the vertical posts from the side pockets and swing it out and forward. This leaves you with access to load and unload large, heavy objects from the side and up close to the cab where it rides well and can be secured against the headboard.

2022 Ford Super Duty gets bigger touchscreen and more package options

Whether it comes to your home or truck, it’s hard to beat a big screen.

The 2022 F-250 has become Ford’s latest pickup to get the automaker’s 12-inch touch screen with SYNC 4 which will come standard on Lariat and above models.

Physical controls will accompany the screen to allow for quick access to commonly used functions. And that’s a smart idea since flipping through screens can be a pain not to mention the haze of fingerprints that often builds up on the screen from constant touching.

TELEMATICS FOR ALL: FORD EXPANDS DIGITAL OFFERING TO ALL MAKES AND MODELS MAR 8, 2021 | DEARBORN, MICH.,

  • Ford TelematicsTM expands product offering, unlocking fleet monitoring services for all makes and models regardless of automaker
  • Additional new features allow ”at-a-glance” management of compliance, with a fleet-wide driver behavior dashboard and fleet-level notifications to help reduce human error and manage total cost of ownership
  • Ford Telematics Essentials - a complimentary version of the service for Ford vehicles – provides vehicle health insights, trackable maintenance, remote viewing of malfunction and warning light information, recall information and more

DEARBORN, Mich., March 8, 2021 – Every trip a driver makes can reveal important digital clues to fleet operators about how their vehicles are being used, unlocking insights to improve employee performance and vehicle health. Now, Ford is ensuring no vehicle gets left behind by expanding Ford Telematics to support all makes and models – regardless of automaker.

This new capability alongside new tools offered by Ford Telematics1 gives businesses the flexibility they need to manage their fleets, while helping to better manage driver behavior, performance and compliance goals.

“At Ford, our commitment to fleet customers goes beyond the mix of their fleet,” said Alex Purdy, Director of Business Operations, Enterprise Connectivity, Ford Motor Company . “By supporting all makes and models, expanding the capabilities of Ford Telematics and providing complimentary management tools, we’re arming fleet managers with the knowledge they need to maintain uptime and increase productivity across their fleet.”

With Ford Telematics, fleet operators can now gather, view and monitor data from all their vehicles, regardless of manufacturer. With this expanded functionality, fleet managers will be able to analyze all of their fleet vehicles in one easy to use dashboard– including the ability to improve uptime, monitor performance and plan maintenance services.

Customers can leverage this capability on most non-Ford vehicles by using a plug-in device that connects to each vehicle with a wiring harness that leaves the OBD II port available for use. Additionally, this expanded functionality is provided as part of the regular subscription cost for Ford Telematics.

The ability to support all makes and models is just the latest step Ford has taken to expand the breadth of Ford Telematics. Fleet customers who deploy electric vehicles also have access to an electric vehicle telematics dashboard, which provides features such as electric-vehicle data, charging reports, and web-based pre-conditioning that can help optimize battery efficiency.

Managing behavior and compliance

Ford Telematics is designed to help customers improve the management and performance of their fleets. The service is constantly introducing new features to do just that, including a fleet-wide driver behavior dashboard and individual driver scores that help improve performance.

The driver behavior dashboard gives managers a survey of how their vehicles are performing, providing information about trends that involve harsh braking or acceleration, speeds driven over posted limits and/or fleet-set thresholds, seatbelt use and idling time. A personal driver score also lets fleet managers quickly see how specific drivers are doing, giving them opportunities to further coach them on best practices and areas of improvement.

“Because there’s so much data at our fingertips, it’s critical to give fleet managers a clear and simple way to gain insight into their business,” said Purdy. “Ford Telematics gives managers an easy way to break down performance trip by trip, driver by driver, so they can focus on running a safe, productive fleet.”

Severe incident notifications, meanwhile, let fleet operators know when their drivers and vehicles have been involved in a severe incident where the airbag has been triggered. E-mail and in-app alerts can relay the driver involved, the location of the crash and the time. Vehicle misuse notifications enable managers to set operating hours and receive notifications if their vehicles are being used inappropriately during off-hours.

Improving uptime

Information is the lifeblood of any organization, and commercial fleets are no exception. That’s why Ford is moving to make its services even more accessible with the launch of Ford Telematics Essentials2 for Ford vehicles, a complimentary level of service for commercial customers that will be available beginning in the second quarter of 2021.

Ford Telematics Essentials gives customers access to vehicle health insights such as odometer readings, diagnostic trouble code and information around oil life, engine hours and recalls. Later this year, this complimentary service will also allow fleets to digitally track and plan maintenance or repair services with local dealers.

Meanwhile, Ford Telematics continues to expand its feature offerings and the amount of data it can share with fleets about their vehicles, with support for more than 3,800 diagnostic trouble codes. These codes help identify potential issues with vehicles, and are coupled with alerts that tell customers whether they should take action immediately or soon in order to remedy a situation.

Further bolstering Ford’s mission to improve uptime for commercial fleets is the widespread adoption of over-the-air update capability, beginning with the 2021 F-150. Vehicles equipped with this technology can receive updates and repairs wirelessly, reducing the need to visit a dealer for maintenance. These updates can be delivered in the background or scheduled by the driver at their convenience, creating another way to keep fleets up-to-date and on the road.

2021 Ford F-600 offers medium-duty benefits in smaller frame

According to Ford Motor Co., fleet and commercial customers can now manage larger upfits, carry more equipment and tow heavier loads with the Model Year 2021 Ford F-600 than they can with any other Super Duty chassis cab its size. Customers will also get the added capability of standard power takeoff provision on both the class-exclusive gasoline and available diesel powertrains.

Slotted between F-550 Super Duty and F-650 Pro Loader Medium Duty truck, F-600 has the familiar size, interior and controls of an F-550, with a step-up height that’s only 3 millimeters higher. F-600 uses higher-capacity wheels and tires, upgraded driveshaft mounts, an upgraded rear axle, more robust brake rotor materials and strategically placed frame reinforcements behind the cab to deliver Class 6 capability in a compact Class 5 package.

With the available 6.7-liter V8 Power Stroke diesel engine, F-600 delivers gooseneck towing capacity of 34,500 pounds and a maximum GCWR of 43,000 pounds. The third-generation diesel features enormous low-rpm output to get truly heavy loads underway, with 330 hp and 825 lb.-ft. of maximum torque at 2,000 rpm. As a result, customers can equip their F-600 with heavier bodies and equipment like telescopic cranes, and can tow larger loads so nothing has to get left behind.

“For years, many of our utility, towing and oil/gas service fleet customers have specced all the possible upgrades on their F-550 chassis cabs to avoid having to step up to a traditional Class 6 truck, but they’ve still pushed the limits of what a Class 5 truck can do,” said Nathan Oscarson, Ford commercial truck brand manager. “Now those fleets are moving into F-600 to get the increased payload and GCWR they’ve needed all along in a truck that fits.”

As F-600 enters its second year of production, the Ford TorqShift 10-speed automatic transmission comes with a 10-bolt design live drive power takeoff (PTO) provision standard on both the 7.3-liter V8 gasoline and 6.7-liter V8 diesel powertrains. The power takeoff provision works with aftermarket power takeoff units to drive auxiliary equipment anytime the engine is running, either in stationary or mobile mode at any vehicle speed. In stationary mode, it is rated to handle up to 300 lb.-ft. of torque. F-600 equipped with the diesel engine offers split-shaft PTO capability that makes it possible to run two pieces of auxiliary equipment at the same time when the vehicle is stopped.

Tongue Weight Safety Demonstration

Proper trailer tongue weight improves the vehicle and trailer towing experience by improving performance. Not enough tongue weight or force on the hitch/tow ball causes an increase in trailer sway from side to side, making it difficult to control. Conversely, too much tongue weight or force on the hitch/tow ball could overload the rear tires of the towing vehicle, pushing the rear end of the vehicle around. This could also negatively affect the vehicle handling. Performance is impaired as you might not be able to go around corners and curves properly, and your vehicle may not stop quickly enough when you press the brake pedal.

The Weigh Safe Drop Hitch effectively measures the tongue weight of your towing load, improving the vehicle tow load balance and performance.

2021 GMC Sierra Offers More Innovative Trailering Tech as Americans Continue to Hit the Road for Outdoor Adventures

Jack-Knife Alert, Trailer Length Indicator and enhanced Rear Trailer View join existing available camera technology on GMC Sierra 1500 and Sierra Heavy Duty to help drivers tow like a pro

DETROIT – At a time when towing is on the rise, the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 and Sierra Heavy Duty will offer several new available features that build on the trucks’ strong suite of customer-focused trailering technologies.

“Trailering is essential for pickup truck customers. More than half of our Sierra customers use their trucks to primarily tow equipment for outdoor adventures,” said GMC Marketing Director Rich Latek. “We continually listen to customer feedback, which tells us they want class-leading safety, technology and comfort to tow what they need, whether it’s a boat, an RV or a trailer hauling off-road toys.”

These updates arrive as an ever-growing number of Americans are turning to outdoor activities that require a trailer. In a recent study, the RV Industry Association found that more than 46 million Americans are planning to take an RV trip in the next year. As a result, shipments of RVs have been increasing this summer and towable RVs make up about 90 percent of those sales.1

New or enhanced trailering tech available on both 2021 GMC Sierra light-duty and heavy-duty models includes:

Trailer Length Indicator: New for 2021, when enabled and driving forward with the turn signal activated, the center console screen displays a red overlay twice the length of the compatible trailer and shows when other vehicles are present and may interfere with a lane-change maneuver.

Jack-Knife Alert: New for 2021, Jack-Knife Alert tracks the position of the compatible trailer in relation to the vehicle. If the front of the trailer approaches the rear of the vehicle, an alert is displayed when there may be a potential jack-knife situation.

Rear Trailer View now features guidelines and Trailer-Angle Indicator: Rear Trailer View has been enhanced to include guidelines that assist when backing a trailer into place and a Trailer-Angle Indicator to show the relationship between the truck and compatible trailer. Rear Trailer View requires the customer-installed available GM auxiliary accessory camera.

Rear Side View enhancement: When driving forward on the 2020 GMC Sierra, Rear Side View provides a split view of the left and right sides of the truck and compatible trailer that is automatically biased based on the trailer’s angle. In the 2021 GMC Sierra, drivers will have access to this view while driving in reverse, making it easier to see surrounding vehicles and objects while positioning a trailer.

Cargo Bed View enhancement: New Cargo Bed Zoom View and Bed Hitch Guidance are now available, which can be helpful for aligning and hooking up a gooseneck/fifth-wheel trailer.

Select trailering features require a conventional-hitched box or camping trailer and additional setup may be required. Customers can see their dealers for full details.

Additional updates for 2021 GMC Sierra 1500

  • Other additions to the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 include increased availability of the MultiPro Tailgate on SLE and Elevation trims, as well as a new selection of colors. New available features on the GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 include 20-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory tires and an off-road high-clearance step.
  • The available 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel, which provides an ideal balance of performance and efficiency with 460 lb-ft of torque and best-in-class horsepower while offering up to an EPA-estimated 30 mpg on the highway, is a popular choice for GMC Sierra customers. For 2021, the MSRP of the popular engine will be reduced by $1,500, placing it at $995 MSRP above the Sierra 1500’s 5.3L V-8 with Dynamic Fuel Management.
  • Additional updates for 2021 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty

  • New additions to the 2021 GMC Sierra Heavy Duty include enhancements to the trucks’ popular premium trims. HD Surround Vision and Bed View camera technology are now standard on Denali. The new Sierra HD Denali Black Diamond Edition will have several unique features, including exclusive 20-inch high-gloss black wheels and new power-retractable assist steps.
  • Similar to the Sierra 1500, the Sierra Heavy Duty AT4 will now have available 18-inch Mud Terrain tires and an available off-road high clearance step accessory.
  • Other additions to Sierra HD include the MultiPro Tailgate standard on SLE and three new colors.

The Hellwig Products Difference - Slalom Testing Before and After Hellwig Installation

We took Chevy Silverado and ran it through a slalom course, under various loads. Then, we equipped the truck with our front and rear sway bar, and added our Air Springs and did the same exact slalom run with the same exact loads.

The difference is undeniable and the video will show you just how effective it is!
